  • By linguistic standards, Ebonics is a irreproachable dialect of the English language. American English itself is nothing more than a dialect as well. Language evolves as any given social group evolve. Ebonics has has nothing to do with education, and everything to do with cultural diversity. It also has many elements in common with dialects of major languages all over the world. If you travel to Italy or France or wherever, you'll discover linguistic variations that reflect cultural diversity within any given society. People who want everyone to talk the same way are very invasive, destructive and unimaginative. In many countries, children were beaten or humiliated in school if they spoke the dialect which their parents spoke at home. In this was many European dialects have almost disappeared, and Western European society has lost its diversity and richness.

Maybe you like to hear Black people speak their dialect because you like to celebrate diversity in a world which is becoming increasingly flat, uniform. Unlike the person who wrote that Blacks are ruining the language, you know that language is alive - it can never be ruined. It is only a mirror of life, living, celebration, pain, happiness and sorrow.
