I love rocking back and forth

I can do it for hours. Sometimes, I consider setting time out of my busy schedule just to rock back and forth, legs tucked up to my chest. I used to walk in circles for extended periods of time when I was younger, around our house, but now our house is too small to do that like I used to. Rocking brings me joy.

I’ve never been told I’m autistic and I also rock myself when I get extremely depressed or stressed out. I also my a clicking sound with my tongue randomly which helps soothe me. So if it helps relax you then who cares if somebody thinks it’s normal or not? You do what’s best for you man!

I do want to mention that I was physically, emotionally and sexually abused as a child.

        • Idk if this is a cry for help. You sound pretty hurt with these self soothing habits. Saying this as (you know bc of the post) someone with similar habits, I hope you're doing ok. Let's rock ourselves to health and happiness 🤣

Oh no, no cry for help. I merely wanted to add that as context. I don’t necessarily know about you, but when I get overly anxious or depressed, that’s when I begin to rock. I don’t even realize I’m doing it either. Depending on the severity of the situation, I may rock very subtly or it may be quite noticeable.

Reminds me of a strait jacket patient in the padded cell, just rocking back and forth.

For me, I would roll my blanket around my whole body to create a 'strait jacket'. My ex-friend is the one who recommended this.

As other people said, this could be a sign of Autism, or rocking back and forth is a way to drain energy without really doing anything so it relaxes you when you are releasing your energy into a fixed movement.
