Unless it was his objective to put you through bad times, I really don't see the need to? Somehow it's just unnecessary and if you want to be the better person, that's really not the way to go about it.
But each to their own, it just seems to me that he's still part of your life, and even though you think you've moved on, if you're still trying to do things for/in spite of him, then it's well possible you haven't. You don't have to like him, but if you want to move on, leave him to his life, and get on with yours.
