My fiance loves my family more then his definatly. And you and him sound like you're in a the same boat or his might even be a sinking one. His mother has a huge drug and alcohol addiction and apparently when he lived with her she used to beat him and what not. (I've never met her and I've been with him a year this month, by the way.) And his Dad is super obsessed with the end of the world and religion, even though he's actually a serious pothead and hypocrite and has actually tried to make him drop out of school before and lots more.
But he loves and turns to my family more because we actually love and support him like his family does or ever has. So you're probably reacting the same way.
