It is true they threw escrements outta window but there were also people who picked that shit up and went to throw it in the dirt.
There also were some alchemist who were already trying to produce the first fertilizers out of shit by basically melting it down with acids.
It's not a coincidence the production of sulphur acid came just at that time.And guess what they used to make it?saltpeter.
There was even "magic" back then you know.
