Cats are generally represented as soft and dogs are generally represented as rough. It's a stereotype, but that's the representation. Both can be positive traits, which means pet preference can be used as heuristic test for aspects of personality.
I like roughness and chaos and gracelessness more than sophistication and calculation and grace, which would mean you'd expect me to like dogs more. And I do :) I identify myself with doggishness far more than cattishness. So it works for me.

I also love rough collie chaos, they have super model good looks and the clearest, most beautiful bark!
