I lie to nosy people

I lie to them because they're too busy about wanting to know about my personal stuff so I just lie to them anyways. I personally believe lying to them is the best way to get nosy people away from me.

I do it, too. Nosey woman of our friends group at the sports bar I go to is obsessed with my ongoings, especially with my ex and now still occasional gf, who lives along the same road as she does. She'll ask me a hundred questions about "Christina", in rapid-fire succession, saying she saw her this and that, on the porch smoking, etc, and anymore I just lie to her about Christina. Either tell her what she wants to hear, or, things so out there and blatant lie but she'll believe it.

Now, it's a fun game I play, seeing what lies she buys and how much further I can go. Nosey people deserve to be lied to.

Theres this other driver at work that'll come up to me and ask me "what run are you doing? Where are you taking this trailer? How long have you been waiting on them to load it". Not only that after he asked me all about my run he ended up choosing that run because he has more driver seniority. He still asks shit I finally asked him why are you asking me all this shit man who cares

I don’t lie per se but I modify the truth a bit to seem more “normal” palatable and simplified because I don’t want them knowing the details of my life.

I do the same. I hate when people ask what something costed, and so I either say, “It wasn’t cheap” or I say some outrageous figure that makes them say I got ripped or I say something so low they can’t believe it.

I basically just tell them I don't remember.

  • Ahh you're probably so right. And classifying them as nosy justifies the white lying. And it probably makes you insanely funny to people you open up to

But what about people who are trying to get better with social communication? I probably seem nosy sometimes, but I struggle with figuring out what to say sometimes and sometimes I know I say something wrong, but some people are gracious enough to go along with it, oh maybe that's lying

If you have anything you've always wanted to say to someone like that, tell me. I'm kinda curious how I'd feel

I’ve recently worked with a covering colleague who asked a lot of questions and the only two I thought were too far were her asking specifically where I live (I told her the town and she wanted more detail) and asking when I thought I would get married (I’m not engaged or even in a relationship). As long as it doesn’t go into “deep questions” or “personal information” I don’t mind it, basically avoid topics you would only discuss with a close friend or that could be seen as judgemental (like when someone thinks they will get married, I don’t think she meant it that way but it still felt weird).
