Well, the Italian people I grew up around took pride in being short tempered and stubborn. I never understood why those would be desirable traits or something you'd be proud of. So I can understand where you're coming from but I'm not sure if it's entirely normal.
I have noticed this too. Of course, Italians think food is love. That's fine. But I have also noticed many of them think money is love. They throw money around within their families in ways that make me sick. Buying dependent adult children cars and what not. Yuck.
