When I was in middle school (7th grade) the boys in art class would finger me under the table (yeah the teacher was THAT clueless) and then sniff their fingers. They called it "getting the stinky finger"! I think every boy in the class got the "stinky finger"! I loved it and if I got the chance I'd lick their fingers.

    "Stinky" is normally taken in a negative way, but Jen is talking about kids, who are never very articulate and nuanced in their use of language.
    
    I like fish, a pungent curry, and ripe cheese (although not at the same time). Some people would call all those "stinky", but think of them as aromatic.

It may sound 'gross' but smelling yourself not just in your groin can alert you to problems. Both sexes tend to sweat more as this area. It is our natural scent. Licking or eating this 'sweat' is not healthy.
As far as 'smell' goes, each of us has our own. Pheremones are a thing. As for 'smelling' them, each sex is able to pick up on and smell another's natural (not necessarily groin) scent. That is without perfumes and smelly soaps. I've met and enjoyed 3 women who I was able to smell.
My ex-wife, and two women I met after I got out of the military. The sex with these three has been the best I've had. Two of them noted they could 'smell' me when I asked them.
