I thankfully outgrew the valley girl accent. But generally I don't have an accent. But I tend to pick up a few accented words from friends. Like "you betcha" and "donchaknow". But I have also found myself using words like wicked and brilliant more frequently as well.
The south does have a stigma, but not all southern accents are created equally. I have a hard time with New England accents, they often sound like they are always angry and in a bad mood.
Please, whatever you do. Do not put an "R" sound in the word "wash."
