I have trouble showing positive emotions.

I seem to have a real problem with showing positive emotions. I can show anger or sadness, etc. very easily; but when it comes to positive emotions, like happiness, excitement, etc. I seem to fail.

I just never feel REALLY happy, or REALLY excited, or OVERJOYED by anything. I don't know if this is a problem or not, but it is really annoying because I feel like I'm putting people and things down by not expressing interested in them, but it is as if the only way for me to show emotion about something is if I'm angry or sad about it.

Is this something that happens or am I just a cold-hearted, ungrateful SOB that can't express himself?

Is It Normal?

  • I think it's normal because I'm exact same way. It's not like you can just get "overjoyed" - in fact, it rarely happens, and when it does you don't know what to do or how to express it. It happens to me too all of the time. I feel really awkward opening up Christmas or birthday gifts and other similar things. It's like you want to be really happy, and it feels like you should be, but all you can do is let out a pitiful smirk and a nice compliment and really, deep down know that you should have more of a reaction but just don't. I think it's normal, and you're not a cold-hearted, ungrateful person.

  • My freind, your not alone. I myself once was like that. Many people are like that or were like that. Go to Comedy Central on TV and watch Stand up Comedians. or look up Dane Cook, Jim Gaffigan, or just Stand Up on Youtube. LUAGH FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! Once you laugh, you'll be well on your way to expressing positive emotion. "Everybody loves a happy guy"
