I have no will power

I have recently been trying to lose weight and realized...i have zero will power. I have no drive to do anything! I try to do something...and end up giving up almost every time. I didnt realize how bad it was until i tried losing weight and now i see my problem. Is this normal. How can i fix it??

lol. let me guess, you smoke because your friends smoked in high school? ha ha. i never had that problem, however i don't stick to things either. mostly because i forget them. you just need to find your motivation which sparked the initial want to do something, and put it somewhere that you see it every day. and trust me, losing weight isn't important. rather work on fitness, and the looks will come with time

I agree, I've given up trying to lose weight after being fat since birth and then for most of my life except when dangerously ill or badly stressed.

I eat healthily and not greedily, exercise every day and I only worry about my weight if I notice my clothing gets a bit tight, then I exercise a bit more for a while and hardly ever have to make clothing alterations or throw out too-tight clothing.

I don't reckon it's about will power actually, any more than giving up smoking or other addictions is .... for me it's more about caring about myself and my kids & grandkids to want to live a long & healthy life and not focussing on the fact that I'm "giving up" something.

Also, don't waste energy putting yourself down if you "fail" and be patient with yourself, it's not easy to change habits but it can be done, it just doesn't happen overnight.

  • yea I have none too, I don't look for work, I pretty much stay in my room all day on the computer but I had brain surgery. I had a job, house, friends and will power before that but im just insanely lazy now cuz I really don't care. My parents feed me and I don't pay rent...

Is this inertia a result of the brain surgery or whatever condition you had prior to that? In other words, have you had a complete change of personality as a result and how long ago was the surgery?

It could be a normal temporary aftermath, have you talked to your doctor about it.

It sounds boring to me but I guess if you get sick of your life being boring you'll change it, eh?

If you exercise, it helps to get angry before exercising. it really helps me. i'm not on a mission to lose weight, i just like exercising. this week, i'd find myself going to bounce on the trampoline about 10 times daily. its not just boucing either. its flips & hardcore tricks. if im not mad at anything, its hard to do this because.....idk how to explain it, but it does work!

I totally agree. I just LIKE running; it's not that I HAVE to run...I just like putting on my iPod and running while I listen to music. I would probably also enjoy punching a bag over and over again for 30 minutes, too...it's the release of aggressive energy or something. The fact that it keeps me in shape is kind of like the 'plus side' to it.

try setting realistic goals and a schedule for yourself. that always helps me. but yeah being lazy as shit is normal. you just have to fight it. sometimes i'll sleep for 12 hours just because i don't feel like getting out of bed. then i'll go online and waste another 12 hours of my life.

im going to let you in on a secret. its called positive affirmation, and its the law that says " anything you want, you got it."
its that simple. if you want something you are going to do anything and everything you can to make it happen. willpower or lack of willpower is a state of mind. all you have to do is look at the glass half full.
What you do is think of what you want, and never ever think of what you dont want. If you start thinking about what you want all the time you're going to make it happen just so you can stop thinking about it. its the same way with something you dont want, so think of only what you WANT. look up positive affirmation on google to find out more.

And I'll let you in on another secret: that is typical new age (pronounced newage to rhyme with sewage) bullshit. There is no law that "anything you want you got it", that's a song lyric not a universal truth, unless you're some self-styled guru who's written yet another garbage book that people buy and make you rich from your lies.

This is sheer wishful thinking, or in psychological terms, magical thinking, which is the level of small children who believe they can kill their parents or siblings with their thoughts, not to mention adults who believe asking their imaginary friend in the sky for something means they'll get it.

I'm not suggesting a positive attitude won't get you more in life than a negative one, but that's because the result of a positive attitude is positive ACTION and that's what can change yr life and the world, not believing mere thinking about something makes it happen.

Did you know that stasticially so-called negative people are much less likely to be depressed or kill themselves, because they are in fact more realistic about themselves and the world, whereas often positive people ignore reality and then fall in a heap when their dreams don't materialise? I'm looking at you, AndrewTheMan.
