No, it's not "normal" per-se, but I tend to agree with you, I'm 19 and even though I have worked 4 jobs since 16, I haven't had a job in 7 months. I hated working low-wage unskilled jobs where I was treated like s#it by coworkers, supervisors *AND* customers (next time you hit up your local Target, have a little sympathy, I used to work there).
You are a little spoiled but I'm of the opinion that anyone under 25 should be given a little leeway as long as they're not breaking their parents bank or making them your slaves. Fortunately, I do not live with my parents, I live in a cute little 1bd apartment, (my dad had a vacancy in a building..) The apartment includes all utilities..but my parents each give me a small allowance (they're divorced) to live on. Failing that, or if I need more cash I write term papers (I know I'm going to hell).
