I have narcolepsy, ask me anything?

As a person with narcolepsy, i also have cataplexy. Cataplexy was already rare as it is, but cataplexy is even more rare i guess?? But anyways, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me anything. Or if anyone else has narcolepsy, talk to me.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Have you faked it to get out of something you didn't want to do?

      No, that wouldn't be right

How do you deal with falling asleep in the middle of typing?

God it sucks so much, but I just wake up, put my phone down, and take a little nap

  • What does it feel like when you're awake?

For the most part, it feels like any normal person feels like

      • I mean mentally for you, knowing you could pass out at any moment, how do you get through the day knowing that?

    1. How can cataplexy be even more rare than cataplexy.

    That is all.

No I was just saying that narcolepsy is rare in general, and its even more rare to get it with cataplexy

Sounds like a very shitty combination to have.

It's common pairing with narcolepsy. It's rare to get it without narcolepsy.

That may be, but it does not answer my question taken from the OP’s post.

    1) Well, obviously I'm not going to say how old but I don't quite have a job yet, but i'm looking to be maybe a speech language pathologist or physical therapist
    2) yes, it happens, and it's scary. Last night I fell asleep face first in my spaghetti :\
    3) I'm not completely sure, but it does mess up the ability to drive. For now, they won't let me drive because it is scary for others.
    4) and no, I haven't, but that sounds scary

(You can hit reply you know)

If I was narcoleptic I would personally go for more of an online kind of job or desk job and tell my boss to poke me with a stick if I fell asleep.

Odd question here but, would you want to wear a shock wristband or something to jolt you awake if you fall asleep?

I mean, it might help because it would probably be better to be reminded when Im falling asleep, but yeah an online job might be best.

First: What do you do as a job.

Second: can you fall asleep in any position such as standing?

Third: does narcolepsy count as a disability?

Forth: have you seen that one 1000 ways to die episode where a narcoleptic person fell asleep in a furniture treatment oven and was cooked?

Thanks for posting. There should be more AMA
