I have a problem with rejection.

I am a budding writer. I have had a few pieces published, but nothing published, as yet, on a national scale. This morning I hear from my agent that the short story I submitted to a well-known magazine was rejected because it was TOO LONG. Too long? To cut this piece would destroy it. Too long? Hey, tell that to Eddie Poe you ignorant bastards! My inflated ego took a major hit here. But I will persevere. Somehow I will survive. Right now I am sooooooo depressed. Please tell me that this dark feeling is normal.

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • I think all writers get alot of rejections before they get well known the ones that quit never get published.

  • You do seem long winded. You could have explained this topic using a lot less words.

  • Great writers, even Edgar Allen Poe , routinely got criticized orcritiqued by editors and publishers....just do your best to give them what they want until you establish a name for yourself and can go out on your own

  • Nobody reads anymore anyways.

  • Post it somewhere else \(._.)/ Even if you're the best of the best someone's gonna hate it. That's just the way the world is.

  • Find somewhere else to submit your piece if it's too long for a magazine. And yeah I think it's normal but don't be so hard on yourself.
