Hang in there, first and foremost. I'm sorry this kind of thing happens. immature weak people will sometimes let others make their decisions for them.
I was friends with a group like this in middle school. On a whim or unpopular clothing choice they would kick someone out of the group. usually just for a while. I was one of these people on a number of occasions because I refused to conform.
what would I do? Well I'd be hurt, but I'd go hang out with new/other friends. most of the time the other people I hung out with were better than the ones who had kicked me out.
when they saw they couldn't bring me down by kicking me out and punishing me they'd always ask me back. being young and stupid, and actually liking a couple of them, I went back.
point being, go out and have fun with other people. show them that you don't need them, it will drive them crazy. yes you will still hurt but smile through the pain. eventually the pain goes away. and maybe he'll see the error of his ways. by then you might be the one who happily tells him to go.
I would make one single effort to tell him that his friends are lying to him. if he's really your friend he will believe you, he may not start hanging back out with you right away. But at least he'll know your side
