I hate women's and fashion magazines

They made women hate themselves long before Instagram and social media. I think these magazines should be pulled from the stands. They tell women to place their value on what men think. Why do women still read these pieces of trash? I think if women stopped reading them and got off social media their self esteem would be so much higher. I'm talking about garbage like vogue glamour and cosmo.

Is It Normal?

  • I think society as a whole is finally coming to realize something that should've been obvious since like, 1900

All forms of print media are absolute shit and pure fucking cancer. They always have been.

  • I’ve got news for you. Women only dress for certain men on certain occasions. They most often dress to impress and outdo each other.

    • That is true but why are they trying to dress to outdo eachother? To be seen as more attractive, generally for men.

Both sexes engage in this behaviour, sometimes in different ways.

      • It’s ego stroking. A way to quell one’s feelings of inadequacy.

        • Well I wouldn't go as far as say ego, it's too strong a word but it's along the same lines so you're right. They're competing against one another to out perform the other in regards to attraction, which given the context is attraction from men or in some cases women if they're lesbian/bisexual.

Most of the time it's not to attract a specific man, like you mentioned, but moreso to be more attractive to men in general.

No shame in it, it's normal.

          • Well it’s normal in our society of pseudomutuality, but not all that healthy. It puts young women on a never ending treadmill of one upsmanship, trying to outdo each other’s clothes, and bankrupting themselves along the way.

            • It's just the nature of attraction. Most of us do it in one way or another. Some try to look more pretty than the next girl, some try to look stronger than the next guy. We generally want to be seen as attractive and part of that, if not the main element, is to be more attractive than those in the vicinity we can be compared to.

Nobody is really forced to do it, people choose to. :P

  • I think just being kind to other women is the best we have at this time. I agree though those magazines are toxic and not just "omg that's toxic" but a true toxicity.

  • You can’t save other people from obsessively comparing themselves to social media and magazines, focus on working on your own confidence- that you can control.

  • Who is forcing you to read or even think of them? You should mind your own business instead of poking your nose and ranting against women who have nothing to do with you.

  • Who's fault is that? If your confidence goes down because of some stupid magazine, that's on you.
