You are correct in not liking this pattern.
Unfortunately, its fairly common.
It is unlikely that your dad will change much.
However, if you would like to better understand why and learn something about the real world and your options...
I suggest that you read the book: "Cashflow Quadrant" by Robert Kiyosaki
You can have other options in the future if you desire them.
