All this could be avoided, all you needed to do was move your cats to a safe location without him knowing (like your folk's house or pay for cattery) and file for divorce. If he was threatening you with anything, like your pet's death, you could've gauged him to say it again beforehand and recorded it to use in court. If you'd had unprotected sex with resulted in the first of your kids, there's such a thing as a morning after pill smartass, and after that abortion and even if you screw up there then there's giving up for adoption.
