It's just a vivid imagination at work. I do the same thing a lot of the time--always inventing situations in my head that are more interesting than what's going on in my real life. Shady's suggestion is actually not a bad one--find a creative outlet to let out all your dramatic urges! I write, but acting or dancing or painting are just as good.
