I hate homeless people so much

I can't study at the library anymore because of one homeless person with an extremely putrid stench, who the library can't kick out. This thing (not sure if male or female) is in a wheel chair and the smell extends from it at least 20 feet. After a half hour you can smell it everywhere in the library (it's a small community library). The thing wheels itself over to the sitting area and doesn't even read, just fumbles with garbage plastic and eats things from it. It enrages me and I sometimes think gasoline and a match would be the best solution.

Congratulations on fitting in with the spirit of the moment. Hatred of The Other and dehumanising people who have serious problems in their lives is so in fashion at the moment. Keep it up, give your basest instincts free reign, and Donnie The Conman might give you a gold-plated presidential medal someday.

You obviously don't know the woman's story, but the fact is that any of us - including you - could end up like her someday. You may think your life is running on greased rails to a glorious future and you're in control of your destiny, but that's a crock of shit that smells worse than she does. You could walk out of the library one day, get whacked on the head in an accident because you're not paying attention to what's happening around you due to fuming about her, end up with permanent brain damage, lose your job, alienate everyone you currently know, and your life could crash and burn.

Nobody likes to think about it, but shitty stuff happens to people all the time, and sometimes there's fuck all we can do about it. Not many homeless people grew up dreaming of the day when they could leave school and live on the street with the only bright spot in their day being getting drunk or high again. Nobody who's compos mentis lets their personal hygiene slide as far as the woman's has. Nobody wants to live in a wheelchair and spend their days sitting in a library because there's nowhere else they can go.

Boy have I not read such inhumane drivel in quite some time. I'm shocked, really. I don't understand even one bit how a person can be so desensitized from the homeless persons situation.

Who in their right mind just finds a real person a thing? They're a person, with feelings. They have real emotions and experiences and they have lived a most likely troublesome tough life, yet OP here just considers it okay to treat a human being like utter trash because of... their own inconvenience?

Oh excuse them OP, I bet they're so so sorry for not being able to clean themselves and I bet they feel super sorry towards you especially for what their life is today. I'm sure your discomfort is their top most priority.

To you, OP, I suggest you start acting like a human fucking being instead of like a monster. They're a person in a shit situation and you're a massive pussy for even whining about this. So what it smells? They're trying to find shelter from the cold weather and you're here complaining that you can't read in a library without a foul odor. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Sorry Boojum that I'm ranting in a comment to you, but you seem to be one of the few people on this post with a little understanding and humanity.

Lighting yourself on fire isn't a good idea. Maybe just try to have some empathy.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
      -
    • Why? The thing doesn't show empathy for anyone else by cleaning itself once in a while. I'm sure that it's properly fed and sheltered, being disabled. It wouldn't survive on its own without lots of help from tax payers.

The fact that you're referring to another human being as a "thing" is evidence you totally lack empathy and you've decided to hate all homeless people because of one person you are sure is properly fed and sheltered proves your total lack of logic.

I know that here in Australia there's a very high proportion of people with disabilities who are homeless and I assume it's the same everywhere.

And here we go with the hard earned tax payers rant.

Bro the person is homeless for a reason that person dosent have any money.

You pay your taxes good for you do you want a cookie because the majority of people and yes even the homeless pays some kind of tax.

I've been homeless. As vile as you're pretending to be, I wouldn't wish homelessness on you.

For one you wouldn't survive, but most of all, its because being looked upon as not having the right to be anywhere on earth, well it's the most horrific feeling in the world.

I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

When it's illegal for a human being to sleep anywhere, that's just fucking disgusting.

Imagine being looked upon as less than an animal.

    That's what homelessness is.

  • It’s not like making a post about it will change anything the only way to prevent this would be to help it out or not go. If I were in your position I’d bring it some supplies and food. At least you know it’s not some fake homeless person just taking money. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would want to smell bad and pick out of the trash. You never know their story though sometimes they can’t help where they are at in life and it is clearly disabled. If it bothers you don’t go and if you want to then idk what to tell you unless you make the change in preventing the smell and give it some things but you sound heartless so just idk stay home and continue to complain when you most likely won’t do anything to prevent it. Idk if you’re just venting on wanting to kill someone who needs help or if your looking for advice but with this attitude nothing will change.

Buy her a sandwich, and quietly ask why she's in the library. Most homeless people just want someone to listen to them, since no one else will. This is shit I would do, and have done.

However, I ran into a few homeless people I dislike, like the ones who get drunk/high all the time and begging for money to support their vices really pisses me off. When I use to work for a Deli, I gave a man a roast beef sandwich I made for myself, since he was begging for money to buy food. When my shift was over and walking to my car, I gave him my food, and he turned it down saying, "Oh... uh... I don't want this." I ask him why, and isn't he hungry, mind you I'm in uniform, so he knows I work at the establishment he's begging in front of. He tells me, "I'm allergic to whatever this is." I'm like... "Roast beef?" And he goes "yeah, I just need money for different foods." Later found out from an older coworker that he's a drunk who begs out there every once in a while.

      Comment Hidden ( show )

Buy the man a beer. I've given drunks money in AA to buy beer because who am I to judge. Perhaps that beer will lead him to what we call a "moment of clarity".

But... I'm not the first person to see him. I'm sure previous people have given him money before I was hired, yet he's still there. How many beers does he need to lie for to have a moment of clarity? D:

        Also, you're interesting lol

Thanks, you too. Could be one drink, who knows. I once gave a heroin addict a 16 ounce beer and an apple when he was coming down.

He stayed sober and got into treatment. Ultimately he is back using right now but who knows. It may have planted the seed for the future.

Btw this is in the text of AA literature, it's not my novel approach.

That's awful! Don't get me wrong I don't have a problem with that person going to the library, but I don't think that a person should go to the library if they stink so bad that they disturb everyone around them.

OP insinuates they're some great tax payer yet hangs out at the library so much a single person disturbs them.

My guess is they are very close to homeless themselves, and this women terrifies them, for what may be just around the corner for them too.

I'm pretty sure in most places in the US, if your hygiene is that offensive, you would be asked to leave the library.

I sympathize with your irritation, but you should be directing it at the library staff for failing to expel this person, not at the person themselves. Most homeless suffer from mental illness, and it's unreasonable to expect a hobo to follow social norms when they're so out-of-it that they don't even have a place to hang their hat.

In my town, the job of running the library is an elected position. I don't know if that's the same where you are, but either way if it's a public library it's probably accountable to the public in some way. Rather than working yourself into a silent rage over this, why not get in touch with whoever's in charge and try to get a policy implemented to keep vagrants out?

Sounds like you just hate filthy people. I've been homeless twice and I can assure you that homelessness does not prevent one from basic cleanliness.

This poor person probably has some mental issues affecting them and preventing them from taking care of themselves and their belongings properly. The library probably makes them feel safe in a world that is very unsafe - especially for the mentally ill.

    You sound very spoiled.

Right. Bird baths, wet wipes, deodorants, community rec centers, trial gym memberships, camp grounds, lakes and rivers.

Tons of ways to stay clean.

It's definitely a mental health issue if this person actually exists.
