I see where you're coming. I was fat (158+lbs, 4'9". Fat for an asian) and blamed my heritage, but eventually realized that it was really my own fault. I mean, really--unless you've been forced food down your throat, no one is to blame but yourself. I've lost 60 pounds since then and a bit of height (barely 5 foot tall now).
Still, I think there's a difference between the "lazy" fat person and a "real" fat person--for a lack of better word. A "real" fat person have trouble losing weight, despite most of their efforts. My sister's friend has a liver problem; So his body gains weight twice as fast, or something.
I agree with 71jenidaj. You haven't been there, so you wouldn't know. It is, however, despite the rudeness of it, normal to feel disgusted.
