  • It depends on the situation & the person.

I swear like a fucking trooper but I think most people who have spoken to me would not say I swear excessively (except the easily offended) as it comes across very naturally as just another emphatic word.

I hear teenagers swear very little but it seems excessive as it doesn't come naturally & you can tell it's put on to sound tough. Little cunts...

    • Hahahahaha @ I don't swear excessively. You can't breathe without saying "fuck" under your breath. You gave me Tourette's.

I kinda do swear excessively in certain situations, OP, but I'm easily capable if turning it off. I tend not to do it in public, in front of kids, around my family and more conservative friends, but then it all comes out later...when I'm talking to someone who swears a lot or here on this very forum. I just let's the swears flow.

      • Shit, I'm just trying to keep up with you!
You know as well as I do that you've been the cause of me saying "fuck" under my breath on more than one occasion, & sometimes repeatedly at that...

But I do agree that it's important to be able to control yourself when necessary.
That's different for everyone & for me personally there's not a lot of times where I have to watch myself

    • I don't mind if someone is angry and swears, or if it is done to grab attention. But I don't like it if it is used completely liberally like "Today I fucking walked up to the fucking postbox and fucking opened the fucking door to get my fucking mail and I saw a fucking message which said that I need to get my fucking braces checked up."

      • So you find it unnecessary, not offensive?

        That's fair enough.
        I'm somewhere in between.
It is definitely part of my standard vocabulary but not quite as regularly as in your example. Possibly close though...
But as CD mentioned I can also turn it off when it's called for.

        • Yes, I don't find it offensive. It is more of a "really?" reaction.

          • Yeah that's fair enough.
Even as someone who swears A LOT I consider some other people to swear excessively.
It depends more on how it's done & whether it seems like part of their genuine self or put on to try & impress...
