Unless the area in which you live has a disproportionately high number of unlikeable humans, you'll most likely have the same trouble finding likeable people in a new environment as well.
I don't know that grad school will be the answer, but at least it will give you something to do. If you can afford it, at least you are more likely to be surrounded by individuals with similar life-experience and ambitions. If nothing else, a reputation as a curmudgeonly academic will probably be enough to keep those that would annoy you at bay.
