I hate cheering when something is cringe

You ever watched a bad performance that makes everyone feel awkward and then one person in the audience starts cheering? I haaaatteeee that... because it only confirms that "Yeah, it really is that bad... but I'll help you out!" I honestly feel like it generally makes the person feel more awkward than it did before.

If you're not sure what I mean, take a look at the 2:50 mark of this cringe comp. video, you'll see a kid bombing it at a talent show and then eventually you hear the "Woooo!"

I never laugh at jokes that I don't find funny just to be polite. I hate it when people do that.

The source of all cringe is self-shame. If anything in that video prompted a strong, negative reaction from you then you're taking things too personally. If you continue to live inside your head you will vicariously suffer a million, invisible pains throughout your life.

You can empathize with someone in pain without feeling an imaginary pain yourself.

I’d say tha your first point may be right for some people but I think in general, feeling cringed is a lot like feeling embarrassed for another person. I guess it’s just the absolutist statement of “the source of all cringe is self-shame” doesn’t seem to ring true for me personally , but perhaps for a lot of people that could be part of it.
