I get annoyed at how people think everything is racist!

  • The problem with political correctness, for me, is that it forces us to think a certain way, and most of us are sometimes uncertain of what we should say and what we shouldn't. It becomes an anxiety. And then it becomes a barrier between people. Sometimes it works against the very people it says it is protecting.

I don't need to learn a set of rules to interact with people of different races, genders, and sexualities. Whoever I talk to, I look for the things we have in common, and then find interest in the things that are different. I don't understand the problem. It's a great thing; both sharing something, and seeing something from a new perspective. There is no culture on this planet that can't learn something from another culture.

Keeping your ears open and being willing to learn is important, as opposed to keeping your ears closed and standing resolutely by whatever you think you know right now (what you know came to you by listening. There's no end-date to stop doing that). We don't need political correctness. We just need to be willing to listen rather than to judge by things we listened to in the past and somehow clung onto too tightly.
