I get a little sad when i see a place demolished

I usually get a little sad feeling when I see a place being demolished.

It really makes me sad to see a house demolished, particularly if it's a beautiful one with nothing really wrong with it (for example, a row of gorgeous, well built, beautifully maintained houses were demolished in my city to make way for a freaking IHOP, CVS, and other businesses, and it was such a shame). I wonder about all of the memories that were created there, how it was someone's home at one point and was probably really loved and cherished. I can't stand the thought of it happening to my house or either of my childhood homes.

Even with commercial buildings, especially ones I've spent a lot of time at in the past or have been a big part of my hometown forever, it's a bit sad as well. Certain ones must be full of memories, some even full of history.

I know structures are really just shells, but it's still a bit saddening. I also know sometimes demolition is necessary, but hate watching it.

I also hate driving past semis carrying crushed cars, because I always think about how at one point those cars were someone's brand new car they were extremely proud of. I can't stand the thought of my car ever being like this, either (as I really love my car and it has a lot of sentimental value since it was a gift from a family member).

Yeah I think I get it.

When I see an abandoned mall, I think of how lively it once was. I wonder what kind of holiday events took place there? What stores used to be there? I'd think about how people probably have fond memories going to that mall with family and friends. It's an odd empty feeling. If the walls could talk, they'd probably have a good chunk of the answers to my questions.

It's not just malls I feel that way about. I'll see an empty house, an abandoned store, an abandoned car, or heck, even used clothes at a Savers Thrift shop and wonder about its past owners and what memories they had with them. I dont get sad about the clothing though. Its going to a new home where it'll be well loved. XD

I used to feel like that. You think about how a family must’ve lived in that house and what memories it held for them. Likewise with a car when it was new how proud the first owner must’ve been. It’s kinda sad.

That's exactly how I feel and what makes it sad for me! That and how sometimes it seems like such a waste with a nice house, especially since with the older ones full of character that are still in good shape, they're impossible to replace (especially since the quality and character of a lot of the older builds and most of their features seems very hard to find in newer homes).

Very true about the quality of older homes. Our home was built in ‘53 and she’s still solid. The wood framing is “old growth” an I’ve burned out drill bits on it. As opposed to the “green” lumber they use today, which is termite and rot prone.

I feel ya, but sometimes things have to be done mainly because it takes up a lot of space.

  • They should demolish more buildings for reforestation.

I feel sad when I see wilderness being knocked down to build homes, and businesses for more people. I always think of how sad it is that all those plants are dying, and the animals are being displaced.

My boyfriend's town did the opposite. They demolished the abandoned houses to let the trees and plants grow in so the wild deer, turkey, and other animals had more places to wander around. It's a lovely idea, but it leaves me paranoid. My town is an impoverished area and people would use wooded areas to dump dead bodies in. I know my boyfriend's town is a lot nicer than mine so it probably won't happen , but I still feel uneasy.

I'd rather not say. There have been creepers with multiple accounts on this site who were trying to figure out where certain users live on here.

Sayville used to have a really good flea market called the Attias Flea Market. It had good prices on shoes, jewelry, clothing, and even snacks. It was a pretty far drive for my parents to get there, but it was worth it. It started to fall from grace in the 2000's and got demolished in like 2013 so a Target could be built there. It's a nice Target to shop at when I'm in that area, but it's not a flea market. I miss those. XD

I don't remember the name of it, but when I lived in the South Florida in the early 90s my sister, and I went to a flea market that had a little circus show with an elephant. I wonder if the elephant is still alive?

I once read somewhere that elephants can live up to like, 70 years, so maybe.
              :)
