I gave my credit card to a man who said he was irs on the phone

I was scared at what he was saying and he knew my address and told me what my home looked like. I give him my debt card number and he hung up. Know I did some investigating logged in to my bank online and $2000 was out it was not my charge

Agreed, you dumb ass!, IRS will NEVER contact you over the phone they'll mail you if you owe them.

Contact your bank IMMEDIATELY, cancel your card, tell them it was an unauthorised withdrawal and ask them to reverse it.

Be smarter in future: this scam is worldwide and has been well publicized.

The IRS will never, ever call you out of the blue demanding money. You'd recieve an official letter to get the ball rolling on any money owed.

I'm sure you've learned your lesson now but don't give your card details to anyone who calls you randomly!

If you haven't done so already, contact your bank.

Whether or not you get your money back will depend on their policy on fraudulent use.

The guy you spoke to was no doubt convincing. That's how scumbags like him make their living, so they're good at it. But still, everyone with a credit or debit card should know that you never give your card or personal details to anyone who calls you up or emails and asks for them.

  • If they have a indian accent it’s always a scam.

  • Ugh, you were scammed. You need to lock your card and notify your bank and stuff, if you havn't already.

I guess this is a lessen to not accept people who claim to be government without proof.

You can even ask a cop to show their badge, and they'll show you, most of the time, like unless they're undercover or something.

It helps to know badge numbers, even a good fake can be spotted if the numbers don't match up

I think this is made up.

First of all, I get calls like that all the time and each time i give them my bank card number, I never have any money taken from my bank account. Seriously, each time i check, all three dollars are still there.

Cancel your Credit card and request a new one. That man could have just scammed you. next time, when you get another call from someone suspicious, hang up and call the company that they claim to work for.

I do not believe this poster. He made it up to see how people would respond.

Nobody from any official institution will ask for details over the phone. If they need information, it will always be on paper, delivered by the postal service.

Never give out bank details over the phone.
Hope you've blocked that card and maybe, if you are lucky, the bank will restore your money.

I've had scammers call me, I usually reply with rudeness and lots of insults...

Agreed... Beat the shit out of the scammer.
I've actually tracked down a scammer that wanted to scam my mother one time, 3 years ago. I would have left the whole thing, but when my mother refused to pay, the bastard cursed at her and threatened her.

So I used some connections to track down the idiot. It was a gypsy living 15km from my town, idiot used his own cell phone and own sim card for this. In Bulgaria, phone scammers are a common sight. I found the right folks to deal with the problem, gave them 70 Euros and they beat the gypsy scum senseless... Also handed the chief of police in that village another 100 Euros to keep quiet.

Yes, I spent 170 bucks on having some scammer beat up. Yes, I could have done it myself, but this is how you properly do it. You get people to do it for you and deliver a message "Consider this a warning and stop..."

It was well worth it. That should teach him and any other potential scammer out there.

The government will never call you. Everything will always be done on paper through the mail.

The last time i talked to one of them, i told them that i was going to stay on the line with them as the police arrested me so they could hear it for laughs. They hung up.
