I fucking hate centipedes and am terrified of them

    Ok, there are a lot of people that hate centipedes here. On the other hand, they are excellent for controlling the local spider population. I kill the big ones but I usually let the little guys go. They aren't very durable, you just have to be fast enough to get them.

    This cave I went to in Vietnam has these centipedes that have evolved to eat these insects down there...and they're HUGE. Like...dinosaur centipedes. Their bodies look like snakes. And they move just as fast as the little ones do. They won't kill you, but the venom makes you very sick and it's a 3 day hike out of the cave, and another two and a half to civilization. Fucking centipedes, man.

    Millipedes and centipedes are primeval. Additionally,if you corner them, they will jump right onto you.

    They creep me out a bit but I feel much safer wearing gloves in the garden. But I don't generally kill bugs. Aphids, ants, and poisonous spiders notwithstanding.

      And OP, it's normal. I'm okay with the little ones, but the massive ones and the creepy ones with the really long, twitchy legs induce shivers of terror up my spine.

    I'm not the biggest fan of insects in general, but centipedes? They're amazing! Imagine controlling that number of legs. I struggle with two. And look at these guys walking around with fifty either side.

      If you look closely you'll see all the legs are connected with little cables. So it's really just two legs.
