  • Fair enought, but I'll bet OP would take more notice of warnings on here than anything the Surgeon General said!

    • LOL true. Who wouldn't. Your concern for other people is admirable though. Props to you.

Btw you think Valium is bad to still be legal in the US. Look at the opiates US doctors hand out.. Oxy Contin, Lortab, Norco(stronger Oxy Contin) just to name a few.

It don't matter as long as it makes the pharma. companies rich.

      • Thanks, I do try!

Not sure if valium has actually been made illegal here, it's just that doctors haven't been prescribing it for quite a few years because of its addictive qualities. Some drugs, anything with codeine in it, are only prescribed in small amounts and usage monitored, so that if a patient asks for another script too soon they won't get it because it's recorded on a data base. Some people seem to be able to get other drugs by doctor shopping, but there are plans afoot for a national database to prevent that.

Occasionally there are rumours in the tabloid press that elderly patients are selling their oxy contin to dealers for street sale, but no-one knows how widespread this is or if it happens at all.

And yeah, far too many doctors write scripts thoughtlessly: a new GP (now my ex doctor) recently prescribed me a migraine drug which had a warning on the manufacturer's own website to never prescribe it for someone who's had a heart attack, which I have ...... I know it's hard for them to keep up with all the side effects etc, but can't they at least check the internet BEFORE they write the script? Grrrrr could've killed me with another heart attack .....
