There is no musical genre that is superior. It all comes down to personal preference. I like most genres of music, but I don't think classic rock is the best. If anything I prefer alternative rock or punk rock over classic rock.

Yeah, I used to feel cool because I wouldn't give in to mainstream music and only listened to indie, obscure music. Then I grew up!

Is it normal? Yes. Is it cringey and untrue? Also yes.

Yeah probably won’t work. Can’t fix stupid. I just thought that this is something you grow out of by the time of middle school. I remember when I felt superior for liking Michael Jackson in grade school and beginning of middle school when no one else really knew who he was.

Also don’t know why someone would feel superior for liking hip hop.. everyone I know likes hip hop.. Even I like some hip hop.

In my opinion, there’s no “right” or “wrong” music to listen to. Everyone has their own preference. I don’t know if this makes sense, but you can like cookies and ice cream at the same time. If someone only eats cookies, I would consider them inferior for not being willing to try other things. If anyone is superior for liking a certain genre, it’s the people who like every genre because they have more variety and more things they can enjoy.

Now i’m not saying everyone who listens to classic rock is a bad person, but i’m almost positive every bad person listens to classic rock. Are they better than me? No.

My dad’s favorite genre is classic rock, and that’s great BECAUSE HES NOT AN ASSHOLE ABOUT IT. He still likes other music and doesn’t think less of other people’s opinions.

I like all genres because I’m an open minded person who accepts different forms of music.

There does come a sense of pride knowing one understands that the crap they put out today (like Adele or Taylor swift) really does suck and that yesteryear's music is better.

When we are young, we tend to take a lot of pride in our music taste, if we are into music more than average.

I agree it is very weird. It’s a hipster thing to do. And I don’t think I ever really felt superior about the Michael Jackson thing, it was actually more like “haha you’re missing out on some great music”. But I don’t recall feeling better than people who didn’t like him. Either way, I think it’s safe to say that it’s a childish way to think. Only hipsters think they’re superior just because they like something that’s not mainstream. It’s pretty sad.

The Beatles are shit tbh. Then there was this one time where our music teacher forced us to listen to a knock-off Superman song.

Classic Rock was indeed superior in every way. Rock music since the 90s have mostly been all about power-chords. It's too simplistic for my taste.

Only time will tell. There was plenty of crap played in the past that is long forgotten. It takes time to develop a standard for quality music. What you should feel superior about is finding gems among the noise of today. There is good music that is new, it is just harder to find.Be actually superior and find it. Otherwise you are just repeating what someone else said and that does not make you superior or unique.
