He has admitted to me that he would go weeks without initiating contact as a test to see if I would, which I didn't and then he was upset about it, which was just absurd and only made me not want to hang out with him because neediness is not a good trait.
It wasn't that I didn't care about him, like he accuses everyone. I'm sure if he needed to go to the hospital or something I would help, but it's not my job to comfort his insecurities.
Most people have their own lives outside of you. It doesn't mean they don't care. Most people don't need to see the same people all the time.
Just like my friend you admit to not going out and meeting new people and doing things on your own yet you expect people you know to do what you want.
Most people do not have many close friends but they have lots of acquaintances.
Seriously every time my friend whines that "nobody cares about him" I want to smack him in the face.
Yeah, but these are my two best friends I'm talking about. Surely its reasonable for me to expect them to care enough to contact me every now and then. They've been going months without talking to me or seeing me. Those dont sound like best friends to me... Its not like im asking for the moon, i just want people to frickin acknowledge me for once...
I guess it depends on the situation. The friend I was mentioning has been a close friend for a long time and I have even let him stay at my house when he was homeless and he still uses the "nobody cares about me" complaint when people help him all the time.
It annoys me when he says that because people show they care in different ways. I'm the kind of friend that will help somebody if they need to go to the hospital or are stranded somewhere or any other serious problem, but I'm one of the last people to come to for emotional support, especially if I see the problem as annoying.

The point I'm trying to make is that just because the same people don't want to hangout all the time doesn't mean that they don't care about you.
