I dont want to watch/read the news anymore

I wish I had never turned on the news today, one horrific story after another. Humans can be so awful, Im depressed and I think Im going to stop reading or listening to any more news. I sat and cried because of all the people being murdered for no reason. I have anxiety and today I honestly felt like I wanted to move to Montana and never be around anybody again...

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Try to focus on all the good that's in the world. Look up videos of people doing random acts of kindness. There's still good people. They just aren't in the news.

    • Definitely this.
With all the bad stuff, comes along people who take up the cause against it. Perhaps you should join them.

  • I don't like the news either. Nothing is in our control really. It's not your fault those people die. It's someone else's fault. You should know that the world needs more like you.

  • They have people in Montana now, as of 2009.

  • When we sail across oceans, the news is not allowed on the boat. Why bother if one is a thousand miles from the nearest land? Sailing in the Caribbean, we do think it important to be aware of anything that might affect us, so I do check the internet for news of the area we are in.
About half way between Hawaii and Tahiti, a 31 day sail, I did begin to wonder if the people had blown themselves out of existence, so I turned on the radio just to hear that someone was still out there. It was the early 70's and the threat of nuclear annihilation was a very real possibility.

  • The news does that. I have to limit the amount of news articles I read (no more daily mail!) because, it changes me. It makes me grumpy, angry, pessimistic, and unreasonable. I'm not like that normally. I thought I was going through a personality crisis! Now that I'm limiting, I'm pretty much back to my old self. For your sake, you've got to put a limit on how much news you watch/see. No doubt, it's good for informing but, it's not good all of the time.

  • The news isn't actually there to inform you, it is merely entertainment.

  • Same but without anxiety. News is bad for you especially if you have depression. I have only watched 4 news reports since 9/11/2001.

  • Did someone say that the news is entertainment? Yep. The old line of "if it bleeds, it leads" prevails here. That crap in the general media is there to sell advertising space.

  • If it's bugging you, don't feel like you have to. There's nothing wrong with wanting to distance yourself from it a little.

  • The news does that.
I never watch or read it...I get told things by oeople in my life or I stumble upon in my daily internet activity.

The only "news" I watch if I decide to watch any is the colbert report...I recommend it.
