I dont think its cowardly

People often say "he took the cowards way out" but I genuinely think its kind of brave to off yourself. In a kind of weird way. You don't know whats gonna happen when you die its a mystery. It takes some courage.

But what people don't think about is that most people who commit suicide are in a state of panic and their judgment is clouded. They are irriational and not able to think logically.
They aren't being brave or cowardly, they are just acting in a state of confusion which makes it even worse to call them cowards. Mental illness is just that - an illness. When it really takes a hold you lose control of your own self.

I think the killing method itself may often take a lot more courage than people realize, it's deeply ingrained in us to fear and hate almost anything that leads to death. If they jump from a high building they have to overcome the fear of heights for example. In addition you have to deal with not only the fear of death and what may come after, but also the fear of what happens if you fail. You may just get badly injured and crippled, and you may get locked up in a mental hospital (which is my worst nightmare or close to). It actually takes a lot of courage when you think of it. Besides fear is about what may come, not what currently is, so cowardly isnt exactly the right word if they are just escaping from the constant misery they are already in.

I am for talking people out of suicide and helping them when possible, but I am actually not for banning it by law and preventing it by force (especially for prolonged periods). At the end I think its genuinely that persons choice. We put down our pets if they become severely ill so they dont suffer longer than they have to, and maybe we should show some of the same type of compassion for other humans. Especially when there is little to no chance of things getting better (but often there is, and depressed people are not very good at seeing the hope in situations, so its tricky)

Either you save yourself or you don't.

I agree with you. Given the average individual's fear of death, I'd say it's a brave move.

Those people also need to learn some respect. They don't know what's going on in that person's mind. They're in a bad place. I've been there so I know.

I always thought that offing ones self(Depending on circumstances), is the final act someone can do for themselves(Again, depending on circumstances).

Edit: to clarify, someone offing their self over a break up, or because they were rejected, is dumb to me. But still, that takes balls. Suicide is never cowardly.
