A lot of people assume intelligence and popularity are correlated. The truth is, making and keeping friends is the result of being exceptionally average in every way. If you have any trace of intelligence, the vast majority of people will misunderstand you and avoid you. People are only capable of acknowledging positive characteristics when it's ones they themselves possess, so even if someone is superior to them in every way, it will be completely unknown to and beyond the comprehension of the average person unless the knowledge of their superiority is passed along from another average person. This explains why average people will always triumph in popularity, while intelligent people will go unappreciated unless they succeed in accomplishing something revolutionary that progresses the human race.
Many intelligent people don't understand this and assume it's a problem with themselves, viewing the average people as superior, and leading them to adapt to their surroundings and degrade their character to fit in with the norm. On the other hand, the intelligent people who acknowledge their superiority stop associating entirely with the common people. The first group takes in the influence of inferior beings and decreases their mental potential in the process, while the second group lacks the utilitarian benefits of associating with other people. These are both undesirable outcomes. A middle ground needs to be met. The middle ground is that an intelligent person acknowledges that they must associate with other people to some degree in order to succeed, but that the opinions and influences of the associates must be given much less merit than their own. In other words, they must outwardly adapt to their surroundings, but inwardly remain the same person that they were. Most intelligent people will fall under the 1st or 2nd category, and die pathetic or alone. The 3rd category are the people written in history books.
This is all under the assumption that you're intelligent though. Maybe you don't have friends because you're just a fucking weirdo.
