Well, I can't say that I am much of a gamer myself, but I can understand what you mean. Many people who find friends on the internet are the same way - people like them and respect them, but in real life, things are completely different and it makes them want to escape into their "virtual life" even more.
Similar things have happened to me though. Maybe not to such an extent, but when things were bad for me, I had all these friends in the internet and it made me feel even worse in a way that I was relying on that. Because it's only in the computer. It's good, but not as good as the real thing. Well, it is sort of real, but you know what I mean.
Some advice - those people who don't respect you but keep asking for your help? You shouldn't give in to them and help them because they are using you. If they aren't prepared to be civil to you, why should you be nice to them? It's not going to win their approval. It's just not worth it because they sound like a bunch of idiots to be honest. Don't let them step all over you.
School can be a crappy place. Luckily it's only temporary. Be careful not to live only online even though it may be tempting. Then maybe you'll find some decent people you get along with in real life too.
I know exactly how you feel. I think that the best explanation for it is, in the virtual world you are everything you want to be in real life. And that person who you really are only, that only shows online, lets you truly live without the judgmental eyes of others. Unless you're literally blind it is impossible to not be aware of how others judge you but in games you're anything you want to be without that constraint. It's a hard decision to make. I chose to quit the online games and just be lonely hoping that i will meet some cool people. I think you should make the decision you think is best. Good luck.
