When I was an undergraduate, I was accused of academic dishonesty--the accusation was later retracted. I decided, instead of getting pissed off and offended, to take it as a compliment, that my instructor thought I had stolen my work straight from an academic journal... but the fact that they have retracted your accusation, too, and you've still "lost face in the department" is screwed up--seriously, f-ck them! F-ck all people who would, as you eloquently put it, "punish honesty and passion." But stick to it--prove them wrong. And ask somebody WHY it's still being held against YOU that some asshole wrongly accused you of dishonesty--it should, on the contrary, prove that YOU have exemplary character for having PUT UP with that sh-t.
