I don't think police should patrol streets

I don't think there should be police out patrolling anywhere. They should only show up if they are called. Similar to firemen. We don't see firemen out looking for fires. Why are there police out looking for crime?

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Because there are times their mere presence prevents crimes.

Also, if they are out in the streets their response time can be shorter because they may already be in the area.

    • Damn straight. I lived in new Orleans and saw more dead bodies in 7 years than I saw in my entire life before I moved there. I'm really glad that the po po did rounds on my street, or I would have seen more. Everyone hates the police when they are giving them tickets or shooting some black man for assaulting a cop and the cop kills him after he created a strong arm robbery against a tiny woman and rushes the officer (Wilson), but when you are getting raped, and he stops them, you don't even say thanks. Go fuck yourself. Yes, I've been drinking.

    • Brainwashed. "Their mere presence prevents crimes."?

Then, can you please explain to me why a seemingly endless series of crimes (some very, very serious) started when police became present, where no crime had existed before.

      Wanker.

      • Buuuuullshit.
If you saw the police patrolling would you go ahead with a robbery?
No, unless you are some kind of moron.
Maybe the reason crime 'increased' was that the police patrolling were discovering more crime on the streets that would have otherwise never been reported?

        • I get the impression he is exactly the kind of person who would be up to no good if the police weren't around and he is annoyed by their presence because it puts a damper on his activities.

        • Yeh, no shit. They're just uncovering what would've been hidden from public knowledge if they weren't there.

        • Or, unless you are the criminal who police have been paying to commit crimes.

        • I could give you about one-thousand, or more, specific examples; but it won't matter, because it is so corrupted, and everything is covered-up, and there is no justice.

Just lies, lies, and more lies.

    • Firemen's mere presence could prevent lots of fires.

  • I wrote this post last night after I let a friend drive my truck.
She got pulled over because a tail light was out and because the truck wasn't registered to her they said they would tow it.
She called me and the cop refused to speak with me so I went to where they were.
The cop refused to give me the truck and had it towed right in front of me.
Fuck the cops. They're just tax collecters with guns.
I agree there should be a system to prevent violent crimes and robberys, but they don't need to be patrolling the streets stealing their money.
They are no better than the criminals.

  • I live in an area where the police do not patrol...and I grew up in an area where they did patrol. I agree with you. I went back and visited my parents a couple years ago, the air of hostility caused by the cops lurking everywhere was so goddamn overwhelming. It's such a waste of funds too.

  • when gas went up my city stopped patrols for six months. crime was not increased at all. then the new budget had gas money and patrols resumed. I also find it odd they stay away from the highest crime areas where the pizza guys wont go, are they armed chicken shits? i believe that is the truth,

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • The places where they never patrol are places they no longer even dare visit when crime does happen.

  • I like the sentiment, but I agree with posters who referred to response times and their presence being somewhat of a deterrent. The one caveat being, criminals are pretty tough to deter, either due to stupidity or sheer desperation.

I would support taking all monetary punishments out of the law enforcement arena tho. As soon as a city and police department accepts fines they become criminal organizations. If a jurisdiction can benefit financially by turning you into a criminal, they have lost all impartiality and have become tax collectors with guns.

    • You are correct about "tax collecters with guns" that is the perfect description of a cop.
Last night I let my friend drive my truck. Because a tail light was out, she got pulled over and because it wasn't registered to her, they said they would tow it, so she called me and the cop refused to talk to me.
So I went there and he still refused to give me the truck and had it towed right in front of me.
The fucking dick head just wanted my money.
      I hope he gets shot.

    • The issue is the whole Police/criminal system of thought is based off children's cartoon logic. That there are all these mean stupid criminals out there generically and police are all heroes who stop them.

Only a psychopath would desire authority over other human beings. Cops are the worst scum on earth.

      • I know good cops and shit cops. Just like I know cool people with bad records, and shit people with bad records.

I agree that we don't need babysitters. If left alone we'd be fine without cops and we were.

        • Everyone makes the argument that there are "good cops," but these good guys remain silent to the bad behavior of their peers, or else face retribution by the other officers. Cops are a criminal organization and nobody who really wanted to help anyone would remain a part of a group like that.

          • That's valid but there are bad and criminal people in every profession so to follow that line of thinking no one would ever affiliate with groups or professions that has corruptipn, and they'd never do anything.

            • If you launder money for a drug cartel, are you not involved in a criminal institution because the cartel members you know are friendly and nice? Somehow police get a pass.

    • Hey stupid: Police are the worst criminals.
They have made such a mess out of things, that no-one can repair the damage they have done!

I would support having the lot of them hung for treason!!!

      • You again. I see you haven't taken care of that brain damage you suffer from.

I'm pretty sure I just wrote they are criminal organizations.

        Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Ya its not that they're there on the off chance they are in the presence of a crime, which is even less likely to occur as the potential criminal can see the car right there. It is rather to prey on people's psychology in that they have fear this off chance could occur. That being said I think there should be no police whatsoever so long as they make people do things against their will

  • If there were no cops on the streets and that started becoming a well known fact and everyone knew it, all hell would break loose. People would start driving 100 mph and drive all crazier, road rage would increase to where the way it is now would look totally tranquil and peaceful, drive by shootings, carjackings, you know how much worse all that would get? Everyone would know that to call and get the police to come help would take much longer now, and the wrong types of people would completely take advantage of that.

      -
    • Worse, how could it possibly be any worse?

No, people wouldn't all suddenly start behaving irrationally, and the "wrong types of people" would likely end up killing themselves, or getting themselves killed, in short order. Problem solved.

The problem is, that police-criminals keep protecting and promoting the "wrong types of people", including, and especially themselves (at the expense of everyone else).

    • they drive like that in Tulsa and the only ones that get tickets are the stupid that stop.

  • I don't really care if cops foot patrol.
It's speed traps, un marked cars, and dicks I have a problem with.
No, you shouldn't drive 70 mph in a residential area.
    But outside the city.
Where roads are open, good weather, good pavement, etc.
There shouldn't be a cop HIDING behind a tree etc.
If it's against the law to pretend to be a cop.
It should be illegal for a cop to pretend to be normal.
    Yea, fuck detectves.
    You are worse than criminals.
At least they are honest about who they are.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I agree, huge waste of taxpayer money. Actually, they shouldn't even come out when called unless there's a good reason. I'm tired of being harrassed at public playgrounds just because mothers don't like me taking pictures of their kids.

  • wow, the level of insanity in this comments section is staggering! Sure, there are cops who are assholes, and cops who are lazy, but I have noticed a lot of people who bitch and say "All cops are Bad" are people with a questionable sense of morality and/or empathy (At Best!), and have criminal records a mile long!

It's no surprise to anyone that a person who makes a living selling crack cocaine is not going to have a good perception of the police force .

  • a cop that sees bad cops being bad is not a good cop , he is a terrorist. so basicly there exist bad cops and terrorists . unicorns and good cops are fairy tales.

  • You can see here, a lot of people believe the baby school kindergarden rhetoric about how police are automatically "heroes" for wearing a certain outfit, regardless of anything that they do from that point on, and the world is a scary place filled with "criminals" (Mean people who just want to be mean to everyone, like disney villians) Who are only stopped by the benevolent hero cops.

Cop apologists believe that the only thing stopping everyone from becoming rapists and murderers is authority figures making rules that these things are not allowed, as if without police literally everyone would be a rapist or a murderer.

  • As a retired officer, there is no real way of telling how many crimes did not happen simply because a police cruiser drove by. I was taught and I believe crime prevention is being seen. I have pulled up to crimes in progress, and stopped them before they went any further. Bad things happen out there, things would be a lot worse without police on patrol.

  • The police have one job: To keep the peace. That one job is a rediculous amount of smaller stressful and sometimes randomly lethal jobs punctuated by long boring stretches and paperwork. Being a cop is terribly stressful, but they respond to any and all calls they get handed and have a presence so they can be closer than some police station 30 minutes away. It is also part psychological, just being around is like an aura of good behavior for the people who'd otherwise do whatever they pleased. There is also the very slight chance someone does something very stupid in front of them in which case they can do their job. . .then do it again when they're required to go to court. Patrols are scary because it's trusting a stranger with authority's judgement, hoping they'll treat you fairly and knowing they're just another human being. They do also actually keep an eye on things, like if something is randomly on fire. Some people would rather just watch a place burn down because it's cool.
