I don't think being religious makes you a good person

Is it normal that I don't think being religious makes you a good person.

Look at any country that have a religious state they are clearly not good that's not to say that secular nations are perfect.

Look at people who are religious in general while a lot appear nice believe me when I say this they can be just as horrible as someone who isn't religious.

A lot of religious folk are nice to people to get into heaven.

I'm nice to people because I'm a decent person.

The never ending of wars and massacres between Muslim, Jewish and Christianity been going on for thousands of years and doesn't look like there's any change.

How's about all them Evangelist that blow up an kill the doctors in the abortion clinics? They need to kill the docs to save the lives of babies, how good does that make them? With our current political situation in the US they don't care if Trump kill people as long as he's pro-life, how's good is that?

It takes good people to do good things, and bad people to do bad thing, but it takes religion to make good people do bad things. And that my friends is as true as you can get.

Religion is the root of the worst evil so how can it make you a good person. More people have died with religion as the base justification.

All one needs is to read the bible and you can find -if there is a god- he is the biggest prick bar none. No? We all except Noah and the arch without thinking of all the good honest people and the children this god murdered to get rid of a few people he didn't like. And did Noah live to be 700 years as the bible says? And if you want to talk about this guy making an ark to hold thousands of animals who did not the wearwithall with such a ship made of thousands of pieces of wood... and waterproof.

What about angels? Those spirits with the wings. WTF do they hang out all the time? And WTF did they come from to begin with? Do you REALLY believe when you get that piece of bread on Sundays it's REALLY a piece of Jesus body? Huh? Do you? If you do your nuts.

Religion say god is the only one that can create life. There's millions and millions of species of animals and insects on land and in water. If god is the only one that can create all this life... he's got too much on his hands.

I can go on and on. You'll believe it because your afraid of dying. I've got some bad news for you. When it's over... it's over. Before I go WTF didn't your god just vaporize that devil and that would be the end of him/it. Or is it all a cult made up to scare the shit out of you demanding you bring money to those buildings they say you have to come to every week... with money.

Its a good mind control tool. It is better for the masses to be religious, these people are easier to control.

No religion is good because they are all hierarchical with authoritarian people at the top and gullible vulnerable people obeying them.

I disagree, those that you mention are there to entertain people and make money. What you mention may as well be political parties, uni's, or companies. Even some families do the same with the males doing exactly that.

I didn't say religions are the only hierarchical groups in society! Of course they're not, but they're the only ones who threaten the disobedient with eternal hellfire. Wars and terrorism may be and have been carried out in the name of political parties in power, but are also carried out by factions within religions who hear voices in their heads telling them what their god wants them to do.

You are referring to the wrong religions, they are not all like that. And the voices are common with ancestor beliefs too, nothing to do with religion. Mass shootings are by fanatical, religion, political and mad factions. Political parties will not threaten you with hellfire, but some will lead you there willingly.

Give me one example of a religion that isn't hierarchical and doesn't tell lies to children

I think it makes you a bad person, actually. You don't have the intelligence or common sense to do what's best for humanity as whole.

Not religious, but religion gives a lot of people hope and a reason to live. As long as it has that benefit it's still required. That being said, there are some religions I would be happy to see be eradicated.

What's good about giving people false hopes and false reasons to live? Good people will be good whether or not they're religious.

Better a false reason to live than none at all.

So lies and fear gives hope and a reason to live? OK. Lol

Or have the will to think for yourself and come to a realization that religion is a corrupt money hungry scam.

I don't think most modern people pretend that being religious automatically makes you a good person. I am not religious but happen to know a lot of practicing Christians, and to be fair most of them seem like good people. Very honest and charitable folk. But maybe they'd be good people anyway even without the religion? Also who are we to judge what makes them a good person? Maybe they think that you are a bad person because you aren't religious. That's their reality.
