There are a multitude of galactic scale events in our future that are inevitable. If we haven't figured out how to live away from earth by the time the next one of these events happens then we will be instantly wiped out.
Our survival hinges on how fast we progress with space travel and colonisation of other planets and moons. Sadly most people are stupid and don't seem to understand the importance of this. They think the earth is an eternal safety blanket and as long as we're nice to it we can live here forever. So yes, I would agree that in the longterm we are all fucked.
Oh well, still got to put a brave face on it and carry on with our lives :)
