I don't like eggs anymore

I am a 72yo woman who had knee surgery about 8 years ago.
A few days after getting home I wanted a boiled egg so I prepared one, took a bite and had to spit it out. Immediately I thought that the egg must be off so I had another and the same thing happened. The same happened every time I tried to eat one.
The same occurs when I drink tea too, which is why I now only drink coffee.
After seriuos thought the only reason I could come up with was the surgery on my knee which of course involved the use of anaesthetic.
Can it be that this is some strange side effect of anaesthetic and if so, what treatment can I get for it?

I lost my taste for coffee after general anesthesia. Before surgery I drank 2-3 cups a day and LOVED coffee. I have not had a cup in three weeks.

I'll be honest, I don't know the answer to this. I can speculate but I doubt I'd be right so there's no point. If it's bothering you, see a specialist.

  • Can you not ask your doctor?

There are so many reasons why it could have happened, it difficult to even speculate about it.

  • Wait a few weeks to see if it'll go away by itself. If not, I think hypnotherapy might be your best option.

Was it general anesthesia? As in you were completely unconscious? That stuff can really mess with your head. People can wake up psychotic, violent, hallucinating, confused, amnesic, etc. If it can do all that I don't doubt that it can affect your sense of taste.

For most people these effects tend to fade in a day or so. Unfortunately in the elderly there's a chance that it won't fade, ever. As for treatment I have no idea.
