I don't let people get close to me.

Is it normal to be weary and afraid of letting people get emotionally close to you? I'm 20 years old and I always have my guard up when I'm meeting new people. I don't let people get close to me because this makes it easier for them to hurt me. Is this normal?

  • Never NEVER allow anyone close to you ....or tell anyone exactly what you are thinking or any personal thoughts....

if you do....you will get screwed every time....

anything you ever tell anyone....sooner or later they will find a way to use it against you...

human beings screw over each other...that's just what they do.

    • Yes, that is what I think. Humans are naturally evil. Only through the social constraints imposed by society are we protected from one another's desire to harm.

  • I'm the same way.

  • If there's risk, there's reward. Yes people can hurt you when they're close but they also have the capacity to make you feel loved.

If you gamble little, you gain little. Yes you may lose big, but just think of what you stand to win.

  • How would they hurt you? Why? This doesn't make sense.

  • Yes.

A lot of people are afraid of emotional closeness. Some people use sarcasm, their ego or other defense mechanisms to drive people away or to vent their fear of closeness.

However, life is about taking risks and if you are not taking risks, then most likely, you are not living. Don't fret the unforeseeable.
