I know you're not earnest, but maybe OP's fear of rejection is that bad. That level of fear can only come from a huge, overly-sensitive ego which must be killed.
OP, if you think the world's fate hinges on your social awkwardness, think again and get over yourself. You'll be able to love yourself once you do.

Yeah, but what if they get rejected after all that? It would devastating to the OP's self esteem and overall self worth!
