Pretty much summed my standpoint too. Though personally I'd go further on the whole "blame" thing. IMO most people who are religious are simply scared (mostly subconsciously) of what they do not know or cannot influence, they therefore cling to their beliefs because the 'big man' (god) is on their side and it makes them feel better. Great placebo right there.
