yes but the post is not talking about crying or feeling bad its talking about just caring at all
the post reads
I don't care about the notre dame cathedral
Having a hard time thinking why anyone should.. Yeah, it's pretty I guess, but people are acting like it's an international tragedy. Just a building...
and yours reads "I wonder how many of the people who FEEL BAD have actually been to Paris? even some of the people who live there didn't look that bothered on the videos where the tower fell down
obviously there would be a whole range of reaction, id argue most who realize the true significance and arnt just hermit crab americans would feel bad about it...not necessarily cry of course or be overly emotional but would certainly realize that it's terrible and would feel bad it happened.
Depends what you mean by care about, I took it to mean he is not emotionally affected by the loss. Why is anyone obliged to feel bad? What does being American have to do with it?
I mean the cathedral isn't quite on the scale of the great pyramids in terms of significance to human history of course, but as far as historically significant cathedrals go it's near the top if not on the top in terms of the most famous, liked, visited, historically signifiant cathedrals in the world. personally i wouldn't like seeing any part of history destroyed even less popular bits of it. I know for a few years, if not still, France was the most visited country by tourist, so by no doubt many americans have been to the site and make up a good majority of the 14 or so million yearly visitors to the site. so people love the place, to me it doesn't seem a stretch to see why many americans just as many people around the world are bummed out that parts of history have been erased/ destroyed. and it doesn't take having visited it to be able to feel that way, If i had never gone to the pyramids id still be really upset if they had been destroyed even partially. I mean i get it, of course there are people who just jump on the bandwagon of sympathy, but i think to people who might not know about Notre dam, greatly underestimate just how much of a globally loved place it is....the are so unaware they say things like,"Yeah, it's pretty I guess, but people are acting like it's an international tragedy. Just a building... "
It’s history is well documented and that will not be destroyed any time soon. The fire is now part of its history, too. I get that a lot of people feel bad, and I’m sorry for them, but personally I don’t feel anything about it.
They should clean up the ashes a little, erect a plaque describing the 2019 incident and be done with it, no restoration. It'll destroy the history of the fire.
