  • I use to feel the same way and had since I was a young child. The process of mastication wrecked me, especially of it was crunchy or a sloppy food. Though I've never been a picky eater. When I was hungry all thought dissipates though, and witnessing others chew became a non-issue. I don't think this is normal. I have seen many counselors on the issue and mine stems from my grandmother making me leave when I ate as a child (on visits and then more so when she came to live with us in her last years). But, this is not about my issue. You probably need to go see a counselor. Over the last few years my inadequecy has all but vanished and only re-immerges rarely. I use to hate listening to myself chew but now can tolerate it much more freely. I definitly think without help it would have become worse. You and your son should attend a therapy session or two.
