This happened to me too when I was in school, though we must have silently agreed to have broken up when he started ignoring me right after asking me to be his girlfriend. He later on started telling people we used to be in a relationship, but that was in name only and we didn't officially break up. There was no relationship to speak of, since we didn't interact, and it's totally okay for you to perceive it this way too.
