ahhh.
i just cant be fake or pretend i like someone. i mean, everybody does it and has to, in order to be considered as "nice and friendly". in my high school, almost everyone plays the "game"...so they pretend to like each other, do smalltalk and so on. but i just cant or dont want to hug someone i barely even know, cos for me, it doesnt feel right. its not honest. u knoww?? in the end, if i dont do it, too, i'll be the loser, cos everybody (who's not friends with me) will think i'm antisocial and cold. i AM friendly!! but i just cant be phony.

    Yep semidolly, i just don't Know Why and how People can enjoy that Kind of 'situations'. But at the Moment, i think i can get quite well along with 'my problem'. I just somehoe ognore the Social pressure to do so and only smile etc when i really feel like ot. I mean i won't See or have to do anything with those People After graduation this Summer. ;) i'm 18 btw, how old are you guys? I just Wonder.

    I totally get what you're saying! But I used to be in that 'loop', and it didn't feel fake at all. Lately I've been thinking like you because I haven't been as social as I used to be, and also somewhat depressed. I just don't get how people enjoy their meaningless little conversations. Is that what it's like for you?

    Don't try to conform to the system, just be yourself. If you give in, then you are being just as fake and shallow as they are.

    And btw, antisocial and cold does not equal loser. I'm both and I still had a decent number of friends and people who thought I was cool.

    Yes! I feel like that too.. Especially because I'm in a girls' school, so all the girls just hug each other everytime they meet. But to me, that feels awkward.

    Maybe your mind is telling you that everyone else is a phony because everyone else is alittle popular than you. if people wants you to be friendly and warm to them then maybe you should be without having any strings attached.

    just be nice and say hello whenever you can you dont have any small talks or anything, knowing that knowing more people is a treasure.

    I too try to avoid hugging as a way of greeting, it just feels wrong. But insted I focus on smiling and do some small talk. That way I'm just labled a little shy but a nice enough girl...

    Yeah, but it is a social skill really. Not about being phony.

    You don't have to be huggy-kissy to people you don't know or care for. But don't be rude or cold. That's just immature - that is - not having the ability to set aside your negative impressions; and not knowing that there is a time & place to deal with those impressions if you choose to.

      i'm not being rude to anyone. and i dont have predjudices or sth like that. its just that everybody's so superficially "friendly".

      bt i agree, its a social skill and i shouldnt try to rebel against it.

    Teens these day. They will grow out of peer pressure, just be yourself and forget about the game. You'll be shock by how things are different from now on when you graduate from high school, it's much easier.
