I can't stop tapping

So, since I was in the 7th grade ( I am about to be in a junior in college now) I have had this habit where I tap drum beats on anything and everything. Usually this happens on a desk, or in the car, maybe at the dinner table, (quietly), on line for something, in public, at my lifeguarding job. I really don't play beats that are nonsense, as I am a drummer, and I tend to view this habit as a practice session of sorts. Sometimes, however, I am concerned that I look insane, as these sessions on the lifeguard chair can last for 15 minutes, and can be audible about 10 feet away. I just cannot stop tapping, I love it way too much.

Is It Normal?

  • Normal! I do this almost compulsively also. Especially the double kick I tend to tap my feet the hardest so it does bother people when i do it. when i sit in any kind of chair it just happens, I did this so much in school the teachers got used to the tapping sounds that occur all class.

  • pretty normal dude, I do it all the time! I'm not even a drummer but sometimes I even get my feet involved like a double-kick pedal. I'm always tapping tables, books, in my head etc - we're just blessed with a brain for beats :p
