Someone said shave after shower, I say no, shave while in the shower. Like you mention I also will end up with face kinda tender and not ready for another shave for a few days. ALSO make sure you are using a quality blade, shave cream and make sure you get your face wet and let it sit for a minute after you get the shave cream on there. Myself I use the Gillete Fusion 5 blades and I use the Gillete shave cream. When done if you clean razor good then put the razor blades down in a bit of olive oil the blades will last longer and not get that rusty look to them.
I can't shave after just a day or two, I have to leave it at least 3 days
